Priscilla Ann Holbert of Annandale, Virginia passed away on Friday, July 15th, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Priscilla was born on September 29th, 1927, in Abilene, Texas to Morgan Higdon Carter and Jane Althea Houston. She attended high school at P.K. Yonge School in Gainesville, Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts. She was happily married to James Grady Holbert, a pilot for United Airlines, who preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her three children; Michael (Allison) Holbert of Chantilly, VA, Peter (Kathy) Holbert of St. Augustine, FL and Susan Holbert of Annandale, VA. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; James Holbert of Okinawa, Michael (Brittany) Holbert of Hobe Sound, FL, Sally (Dave) Grimes of Raleigh, NC, and Jenya Holbert of Annandale, VA. In addition, Priscilla is survived by one great grandchild, Turner Holbert of Hobe Sound, FL. She was preceded in death by her sisters Connie Sundermann and Althea Slaughter and her brother, William Carter.
Priscilla will forever be remembered for her love of her family and her church. A few of her crowning achievements include being a High School Art Teacher, Sunday School Teacher for over 15 years, President of the Leprosy Mission, and Co-Founder of Safe Haven Ministry that continues to feed the homeless to this day. Her strong presence, playful spirit, optimism, and caring heart inspired and shaped all the lives she touched. She was a beloved fan of baseball, reading, puzzles, and for making sandcastles and walking on the beach. Her greatest passion of all was being there for her children and grandchildren and happily sharing their news with everyone.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday July 20th, 2022, at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church located at 6165 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia, 22044. Donations in her name can be made out to First Christian Church – Safe Haven Ministry.
